Canadian testing of AEGIS RTT prototype

Members of the RIM team ran a usability study with the Canadian Hearing Society and persons with hearing loss using AEGIS RTT (Real Time Text) prototype on BlackBerry smartphones, as compared to using IM (BlackBerry Messenger) and Push Email (BlackBerry E-Mail) to identify user preferences. Results will be made available shortly.

 
AEGIS at LibreOffice Conference

AEGIS partner K.U.Leuven intends to attend the LibreOffice Conference (Paris, 12-15 October 2011 ), with a paper/presentation on "Generating Accessible Documents with LibreOffice Writer".

 
ARIA Hackathon at IDRC

The original idea of the ARIA Hackathon was to get developers of jQuery UI and experts for ARIA together in one room, connect them, share knowledge and work on the accessibility of jQuery UI.

Meeting at the Inclusive Design Research Centre (IDRC) of OCAD University in Toronto, several members of the jQuery UI team, various developers at OCAD and around Toronto learned a ton about testing and developing for screenreader users, about the ARIA standard and its process, as well as Mozilla’s efforts on accessibility.

AEGIS presented at HCII 2011

AEGIS was at HCI International 2011, on 9-14 July 2011 in Orlando, Florida, USA. Following papers were presented:

AEGIS at DRT4ALL event

AEGIS partner EPR was invited speaker to the DRT4ALL 2011 - International Congress on Design, Research Networks, and Technology for all, which took place on 27 - 29 June 2011, in Madrid, Spain.

This event was a scientific conference that showcased how the latest advances in ICT can provide an independent life and improve social integration for the elderly and people with disabilities.

EPR's Karel Van Isacker gave insight in the European AT market, linked with research undertaken by AEGIS to identify the needs of beneficiaries (people with disabilities), and develop solutions accordingly.

The entire event was live broadcasted via the internet.
